BAM Ritchies

Case Study: Shon Sheffrey Dam

Client: Dwr Cymru Welsh Water

Designer: Atkins Ltd

Location: Tredegar, Wales

Date: Feb 2013 to July 2013

BAM Ritchies were awarded the contract to treat areas of seepage through an embankment dam by injecting grout through Tube à Manchettes (TAM) pipes. All design of grouting was by Atkins for client Welsh Water

A compound and offices was established on site, with scaffold edge protection and baseline surveys carried out. Preliminary water and grouting tests were carried out in this initial period.

The works consisted of drilling and installing TAM pipes. Grout was injected into specific ports of the TAM pipes with pressures and volumes monitored.

Information from the grouting was presented to the Designer who determined if subsequent passes at ports were required or if additional secondary holes are required.
