BAM Ritchies drilling and blasting team carried out work to provide stone for access improvements at William Grant’s distillery at Girvan in Ayrshire, for local contractor Luce Bay Plant Hire Ltd.

William Grant & Sons Ltd. is an independent, family-owned company and was established in 1887 by William Grant and is now run by the descendants of the founder.

It is the oldest family-owned blended whisky and is currently sold in over 180 countries. It is the world's third largest Scotch whisky brand, selling in excess of 4.9 million cases of whisky a year.

The blast had several factors to be taken into consideration in the design stage, a mains gas pipeline, electrical substation and most importantly the whisky bonding houses only 215 metres away.

The blast was drilled using the RRC D7, charged with 1,300kgs of explosives and 6,300 tonnes of rock was blasted and not one wee drop was spilt!
