BAM Ritchies

History

    • Edmund Nuttall commenced trading in 1865 – BAM Nuttall
    • Ritchies Equipment Ltd. commenced in 1963
    • Edmund Nuttall Ltd acquired 51% share of Ritchies in mid 1960s
    • Edmund Nuttall became a wholly owned subsidiary of HBG in 1978
    • Ritchies became a division of Edmund Nuttall in 1986
    • HBG became part of Royal BAM in 2002 and Ritchies was rebranded as BAM Ritchies and Edmund Nuttall had a name change to BAM Nuttall.

    Our development may be summarised as follows:-

    • Ritchies initially providing drilling and blasting services
    • Diversified into rock stabilisation in early 1970’s
    • In the early 1980s developed into exploratory drilling
    • Continued to widen scope of geotechnical capability through 1990’s
    • Acquisition of Concrete Techniques company in 2000
    • Opened three new offices 2000 to 2003
    • UKAS Accreditation for laboratory services
    • One of select specialists with ISO 9001:2008 for all activities
    • One of select specialists with ISO 14001:2004 for all activities
    • One of select specialists with BS OHSAS18001:2007 for all activities
    • One of select specialists with Gold accreditation by the Investors in People organisation
    • BAM Ritchies passed the 500,000,000 tonnes of rock blasted since it has been in business in 2006. Total is now over 650,000,000 tonnes.
    • BAM Ritchies is the largest Drilling and Blasting contractor in the UK
    • BAM Ritchies currently blasts about 36 million tonnes of rock per annum
    • Our turnover has risen from about £8 million per annum in 1999 to about £60 million in 2013
