Vocational training

Employees are encouraged to develop their skills by participating in vocational training programmes. We have been providing qualifications to both direct and supply chain employees since 2000. Our team of vocational trainers deliver a range of qualifications through our accredited centres covering NVQ’s for construction and minerals processing as well as ILM qualifications, and internal training courses.


National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) are work based awards that are achieved through training and assessment. To gain an NVQ, candidates must prove that they have the ability (competence) to carry out their job to the specified standard. NVQ’s are derived from National Occupational Standards that specify the competence requirements for all occupations at all levels.


Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs) are work related qualifications helping candidates to develop their knowledge and skills. They are normally knowledge-based qualifications providing learners with the theoretical knowledge behind their chosen occupation. These nationally recognised qualifications are designed to bring real business benefits through the strong focus on practical skills and assessment.

We are accredited for the training and assessment of construction related Institute of Leadership and Management VRQs.

Information Advice and Guidance (IAG)

We hold Matrix accreditation for information, advice and guidance. The Matrix standard is the national quality standard for the delivery of advice and support services helping individuals in their learning, career and work goals.

Our IAG mission is to provide clear, consistent, impartial and confidential information, advice and guidance to potential and current learners to enable them to make sure that our programmes meet their needs.

Our target client base for IAG is our direct employees, our supply chain employees and employers. Our delivery of IAG is limited to our occupational area to meet our company values. Feedback is reviewed by programme managers and is used to make improvements.

Industry Card Schemes

BAM Nuttall Ltd, through our Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) membership is committed to meeting industry targets of maintaining a competent workforce at all levels who are qualified and CSCS/CPCS registered.

Rail Training

Railway work is a core part of our operations and requires particular training and competencies. A high proportion of our team members have relevant valid rail certifications. This specific training is carried out by our ‘outstanding’ in-house training team through the BAM Academy.

Graduate programme

BAM Ritchies recruits new graduates in many different disciplines each year and can often provide summer employment for suitable undergraduates.
